Mt. Hood and the Columbia Gorge

Recreation and activities near our Mount Hood B&B

Within an hours drive of Mt. Hood Hamlet Bed and Breakfast, our Mt. Hood Inn, lie world-famous year-round skiing on Mt. Hood, nearby fishing, miles of hiking trails and whitewater rafting in the Columbia River Gorge. Cultural and recreational opportunities abound in Hood River County; scenic parks, mountain bike trails, windsurfing and sailing in the Columbia, historic tours, festivals, museums and art.

The Columbia River Gorge offers a wealth of scenic wonders, river views, waterfalls and wildflowers, snow-capped mountain peaks, evergreen forests and farmland. The fall foliage is among the best in the Pacific Northwest. A scenic drive or a train ride are two options to help you enjoy the breadth of all this beauty. Very close to our elegant Bed and Breakfast.

The climate near our Inn is mild year-round and the average annual precipitation is 22 inches. Previously known for growing luscious pears, apples, cherries, peaches and other fruits, and for the view of the majestic Mt. Hood, Hood River has also become the destination of choice for wind surfers from around the world. The winds from the Columbia River Gorge, best during the middle of the day, create ideal conditions for windsurfers looking forward to riding the waves.

The Mt. Hood Scenic Railroad offers trips through the beautiful apple and pear orchards in the area near our Inn. The circa 1910 rail cars are pulled by a diesel locomotive along the route of an old timber and fruit train line through the scenic valley between the Columbia River at Hood River and Dee. The seasonal opening of the train is during the Hood River Blossom Festival, the third weekend of April. The perfect time to come visit our Bed and Breakfast.

Many orchards and vineyards in the Hood River Valley encourage people from all over Oregon and Washington to make an annual trek in the fall to the many farm stands along the "Fruit Loop" to stock up on fresh apples and pears. Stay with us at our Mt. Hood Bed and Breakfast this fall. The area now has its own "Columbia Gorge Appellation" for its unique wine-growing region, with over two-dozen wineries to tempt your palate, including Oregon's 2007 Winery of the Year, Cathedral Ridge. Come to windsurf. Come to taste the delicious fruit. Or, just come to experience the splendor of Mt. Hood and the Scenic Columbia River Gorge. For these reasons and more, come to visit, relax and enjoy Mt Hood Hamlet Inn our Oregon Bed and Breakfast. Oregon's newest Scenic Byway passes our property
